SUPPORT SERVICES

Sometimes we all need to brush up on certain skills that are needed for a particular job. Through Detroit at Work, you can find out what math or literacy level a job requires, get help with adult education classes, or obtain your GED. Many career opportunities open up if you have a high school diploma or GED. You can also obtain the National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC). Learn more about the NCRC by downloading our flyer here.

Detroit at Work career advisers will tell you what you need, and then introduce you to a partner who can help you reach your goals.

Come in and talk to us to find out how you can open up lots of new opportunities.

A lot of Detroiters don’t have photo I.D., for a lot of different reasons. Don’t let that stop you getting ahead in your career. In order to qualify for workforce services and help, we need to know that you are authorized to work in the U.S. But what if you don’t have a social security card, or a passport, or know what your other options are? The good news is that we can help you, so come in and let us help you!

Detroit is a big city, and getting around can be a challenge. The good news is that if you are doing a training class or accessing workforce services, we may be able to help you with free bus tickets. If you have started a job that needs private transportation, we can connect you with resources to help you overcome this barrier. Come in and talk to a career adviser to find out what help is available.

For many Detroiters, getting a job means they need to find childcare while they are at work. Detroit at Work has access to the widest range of supportive services in the city of Detroit, so don’t let lack of childcare hold your career back. Talk to us about what it will take for you to get into the workforce, and see how we can help get you there. Alternatively, use Connect4Care, an online and text-based tool that helps families with young children find care and check eligibility for financial assistance programs. Visit Connect4Care or text Kids to 4Care to get connected today.  (website: https://unitedwaysem.org/get-help/community-resources/connect4care/).
