HMP - Healthy Michigan Plan

Healthy Michigan Plan Here's What You Need to Know About Work Reporting

This page explains what to do if you are NOT exempt (excused), and you need to start reporting hours. Individuals who are NOT exempt (excused) should have received a letter from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services with the code B 19-48 during December.

Individuals who are exempt (excused) should receive a letter bearing the code number B 19-37, B 19-43, B 19-46, B 19-47, or B 19-49 from the Michigan Department of Health and Social Human Services (MDHHS) in January. Individuals who are NOT exempt (excused) should have received a letter with the code B 19-48 during December.

You will be required to work or do other activities, like job search, for at least 80 hours each month starting January 2020 in order to maintain your health insurance through the Healthy Michigan Plan.  Starting in February you will report the previous month’s activity, beginning with your hours from January.

Unless you are exempt (excused), you must work or do other activities, like job search, for at least 80 hours each month in order to keep receiving health care benefits through Healthy Michigan  Plan. You may use any combination of the following work or other activities to meet this requirement:
•    Job, or income  such as self-employment or pension income
•    Job Search  (such as searching for a job through Detroit at Work, completing a job-readiness workshop, developing a resume, or traveling to job fairs)
•    High School completion, GED, or College classes
•    Job training (training is available for many career paths, including skilled trades, healthcare, IT and manufacturing)
•    Tribal employment program
•    Rehab (substance abuse treatment)
•    Volunteering or internship

Detroit at Work is available to assist you with meeting the Healthy Michigan Plan work requirements at any of our career centers located around the city (click here for addresses).
